pasion project. Back then

Have you ever wondered what it was like back in the 1920's? Such as the style, what they drove in, and what they did for entertainment ect. Well I'm about to tell you. The world back then is obviously so much different then the world we have now, starting with the biggest change of them all. Technology. Well without any hesitation let's get into this.

Starting of with the first topic:

Fashion.

In the 1920's, the fashion was very different. Back in the day, the ladies would wear low-waisted dresses and revealing styles worn by the Flappers, the 'bobbed' hairstyles and cloche hats. A part of there fashion was to mix brightly coloured items such as, scarves and stocking with very detailed and bold patterns on them. Men on the other hand, would wear something that was called back in the day 'zoot suits'. This is a suit that is complemented by colourful handkerchiefs, suspenders and bow ties. They would also where a black tuxedo with a black tie dinner jacket. But this had been changed after WW1 when the rigid formal evening attire and the dress code had been changed to white. Pretty interesting huh?

Next up we have Transport.

As some of you already know, transport has changed the biggest amount. In the 1920's, the main transport was used by horses with carriages on the back of them. I think it would be pretty cool riding horses around today, would you? Anyways, in the mid 1920's, transport became more advanced. Some of these inventions were automobiles, airplanes, bicycles, and also trains. These started to get more and more popular during time and the horses slowly went down and down in the population of people using them. Today, you will still see some people riding horses around but back in the 1920's that's all you would really see on the streets.

Off to my next point in question, what was the entertainment like? This was actually my favourite thing to write about because of how different it was from then, to now. Back then, in 1919, the first ever radio station was invented. It immediately made a massive hit and by 1929, ten million houses had radios. People found the news very exciting and interesting to hear. They never got to know about everything because of how slow it would take to send mail. So hearing about it as soon as it happens would be a bonus for them. Movies became a daily part of their society and one of the biggest forms of entertainment during this decade. A Lot of these movies weren't on the screen, they were in real life. People would act them out to make the scene seem more realistic. It attracted more and more watches and the crowds went crazy for it! At least 700 movies were made a year. Oh, and talking of acting up on stage. Another thing people found back then was the music. It definitely was not like the music we listen to now. The music then was very jazzy and classy. People would sit behind the piano while they would have dancers up stage dancing. A very popular song back then was called 'Ain't Misbehavin' – Fats Waller.'

Here is the next question... what was technology like? To be honest with you, there wasn't very much technology back then at all. But there was a little. Today we have, cars, phones, tvs, gaming consoles etc. In and around the 1920's, there wasn't much of that at all. The 1920's was a decade of in inventions. As you already know, radios were invented then, also automobiles. Telegrams were also invented then. If you didn't know, telegrams were created and you would type on paper in code language. The cameras back then were called box cameras. Box camera are a quite large camera with a handle on the side of it that you would spin to either watch the video, or record it. Technology was pretty different back then aye?

Now onto my very last and final question which is, schooling.

Now, I reckon this is one of the biggest changes from then until now. Back then, if the student was miss- behaving, the teacher was actually allowed to it the kid, a cane, (a straw stick) you wouldn't get in trouble if you were a teacher who hit a kid. Another big change was what the students learned with. Back then and sometimes still now, students would use books and paper with pencils. Now days, we use laptops, ipads, and even sometimes our phones for learning. Back then, the teacher would have a blackboard and a piece of white chalk to write on the board what to do. Today, the teacher will have a plastic white board with a type of ink pen to write. Thats is just some of the differences with school.

That was five examples of how it was back on 1920's. I actually enjoyed writing about this and finding out how different it was back then than it is now. I found a lot of these facts very fascinating and would love to do something like this again in the future. I would have to say that I would rather live in the world we have now, than back in those days. I would love to properly live in those days for maybe a week just to see what it was like. That's all for now. Thank you for reading.

  1. Kia Ora Sita! Yes the 1920's sure were very different. What is the biggest difference do you think from then to now (2018)? How has fashion changed?
