pasion project. Back then

Have you ever wondered what it was like back in the 1920's? Such as the style, what they drove in, and what they did for entertainment ect. Well I'm about to tell you. The world back then is obviously so much different then the world we have now, starting with the biggest change of them all. Technology. Well without any hesitation let's get into this.

Starting of with the first topic:

Fashion.

In the 1920's, the fashion was very different. Back in the day, the ladies would wear low-waisted dresses and revealing styles worn by the Flappers, the 'bobbed' hairstyles and cloche hats. A part of there fashion was to mix brightly coloured items such as, scarves and stocking with very detailed and bold patterns on them. Men on the other hand, would wear something that was called back in the day 'zoot suits'. This is a suit that is complemented by colourful handkerchiefs, suspenders and bow ties. They would also where a black tuxedo with a black tie dinner jacket. But this had been changed after WW1 when the rigid formal evening attire and the dress code had been changed to white. Pretty interesting huh?

Next up we have Transport.

As some of you already know, transport has changed the biggest amount. In the 1920's, the main transport was used by horses with carriages on the back of them. I think it would be pretty cool riding horses around today, would you? Anyways, in the mid 1920's, transport became more advanced. Some of these inventions were automobiles, airplanes, bicycles, and also trains. These started to get more and more popular during time and the horses slowly went down and down in the population of people using them. Today, you will still see some people riding horses around but back in the 1920's that's all you would really see on the streets.

Off to my next point in question, what was the entertainment like? This was actually my favourite thing to write about because of how different it was from then, to now. Back then, in 1919, the first ever radio station was invented. It immediately made a massive hit and by 1929, ten million houses had radios. People found the news very exciting and interesting to hear. They never got to know about everything because of how slow it would take to send mail. So hearing about it as soon as it happens would be a bonus for them. Movies became a daily part of their society and one of the biggest forms of entertainment during this decade. A Lot of these movies weren't on the screen, they were in real life. People would act them out to make the scene seem more realistic. It attracted more and more watches and the crowds went crazy for it! At least 700 movies were made a year. Oh, and talking of acting up on stage. Another thing people found back then was the music. It definitely was not like the music we listen to now. The music then was very jazzy and classy. People would sit behind the piano while they would have dancers up stage dancing. A very popular song back then was called 'Ain't Misbehavin' – Fats Waller.'

Here is the next question... what was technology like? To be honest with you, there wasn't very much technology back then at all. But there was a little. Today we have, cars, phones, tvs, gaming consoles etc. In and around the 1920's, there wasn't much of that at all. The 1920's was a decade of in inventions. As you already know, radios were invented then, also automobiles. Telegrams were also invented then. If you didn't know, telegrams were created and you would type on paper in code language. The cameras back then were called box cameras. Box camera are a quite large camera with a handle on the side of it that you would spin to either watch the video, or record it. Technology was pretty different back then aye?

Now onto my very last and final question which is, schooling.

Now, I reckon this is one of the biggest changes from then until now. Back then, if the student was miss- behaving, the teacher was actually allowed to it the kid, a cane, (a straw stick) you wouldn't get in trouble if you were a teacher who hit a kid. Another big change was what the students learned with. Back then and sometimes still now, students would use books and paper with pencils. Now days, we use laptops, ipads, and even sometimes our phones for learning. Back then, the teacher would have a blackboard and a piece of white chalk to write on the board what to do. Today, the teacher will have a plastic white board with a type of ink pen to write. Thats is just some of the differences with school.

That was five examples of how it was back on 1920's. I actually enjoyed writing about this and finding out how different it was back then than it is now. I found a lot of these facts very fascinating and would love to do something like this again in the future. I would have to say that I would rather live in the world we have now, than back in those days. I would love to properly live in those days for maybe a week just to see what it was like. That's all for now. Thank you for reading.

Title: jack and the beanstalk- cows

Characters:
Jack - Moose
Jacks mums- penguin
Giant- roach
Jacks cow- armadillo
They guy who gave jack the beans- spider monkey

The chicken- ant

One, depressing, sad day… there lived a boy and his mother. The boys name was ‘moose’, and the mothers
name was ‘penguin’. They didn't have the best life but regardless whatever happened, Moose would always find
something entertaining to do. His mother wasn't, well…. the nicest mother out there but she would feed him….
Sometimes. If you are wondering what they both look like then i'm about to tell you. Moose had green eyes, 5
freckles across his face and dark from hair. His mother on the other hand…. She had blue eyes, and
THOUSANDS of freckles across her face, and bright red hair, big difference between them huh?

On another pretty depressing and sad day, Penguin demanded her son to trade in there cow (his name is
Armadillo) for money. Moose was obviously devastated to do this because Armadillo was the only friend he
had and the only one he could talk to without getting in trouble. Yes he is a cow but it wasn't that way with
Moose. He tried to reason with his evil Mother but she didn't take a bar of it and basically ignored him. While
his eyes watered he started to lead the cow out of the gate. While he was walking he started to plan himself just
running away
with his cow. During this time he heard something behind him and then something happened. Someone
grabbed the cow and ran. While this man was running a sack dropped out of his pocket.

Definition of Maori words

Hey readers….
This week during EOTC I decided to do the definition of maori words. I chose to do another Maori
activity and find the definitions and some of the meanings of these Maori words today. These words
were based of some of the people they have at the Marae when people will go and visit.

  • Waiata:
Definition: A Maori song
A waiata is a song that is sung before or after a maori meeting, or at kapa haka, ect.
There is usually a leader that will start of or lead the waiata as well.

  • Pōwhiri
Definition: A maori welcoming ceremony
A Powhiri is used for welcoming all visitors like royalty, school groups to a Marae or a
place. These may vary from Marae to Marae and places to places.

  • Kaikaranga
Definition: Call out, summon.
It is an element of culture protocol of New Zealand's maori people. People use it to call
out other people that come and visit and
exchange it from one another.

  • Kaikōrero
Definition: Speaker
The word is used in Maori which means “speaker”

  • Whare Manaaki
Definition:  Hospitality
Makaaki plays a key role in maori society. Looking after, caring how the visitors/guest
are treated during their visits. No matter what, it important.

Thats the definiton of those words. Thank you for reading

History of Omaka

History of Omaka.

Today I am going to be writing about the timeline of the camp Omaka. I will be starting by writing about from where and when the camp started, up until now. Starting from 1925, onwards. Lets see how this place and camp .has changed throughout these decades.

It all started of at the time 1925. The first recorded Scout Camp had taken place, on what was then known as a place called “Gillett Farm”, which was on the banks of the spring-fed ‘Otukaikino Stream’. When the land was first put to use for this camp, the land was covered in gorse, blackberry and broom. During the years there had been some volunteers who helped. The place had been cleared and exotic and native trees had been planted to create a environment for outdoor activities and education.

The camp carried on its journey and continued to do all their normal activities but then, in 1968, a place called ‘Blue Smoke’ lodge had been built and opened. It included a kitchen, dining and sleeping area. But this was later burnt down by unknown causes in 1980.
Moving into the year 1981. During this time an old classroom had been relocated from Brisbane Street, Christchurch to OMaka Scout Camp. Also remember the ‘Blue Smoke’ lodge that had been burnt down? Yea, around the same time that the class room had been relocated, a new hall was built to replace to lodge. About a year later the two buildings had been officially opened on the 20th February 1982, during the founders weekend.

Ok, so we are now in 2005. At this time, the old ‘St Pauls’ Scout Den from Papanui had been donated to Omaka and wass refurbished to what is used at this moment as the bunkroom/conference rooms. As you can see a lot of changes have already been added since Omaka first started this Scout Camp.

That is the history of Omaka up until 2005. I tried to find further information about it recently but nothing much was coming up with the information it just kind of stayed the way it was but with more people joining and it becoming a bigger thing. As you can see a lot has changed with Omaka from when it first started, up until 2005. When I find out some more information, i'll add in. Thank you for reading.

Does Blogging help your learning

Does blogging help your learning?

I think that blogging helps your learning in some ways…
A Lot of people are going to look at what you have been up to and what you have been
learning about. Believe it or not but a lot of pupils are looking at your blog and taking that
information in and learn from it. I believe that it affects your learning in a positive way and
here is why...

Starting of with the first reason: Comments. With comments they can really help improve the
way you write and how you write it. For example, you could put on something on your blog
and you could make some mistakes, then someone could put in some feedback on how to
fix it up or how to make it better, then for the next time that you post something it will be lot
better than last time. Kids from other schools could comment on your blog about how they
love your work and how you should keep on doing it.

Here's another reason why: Confidence- I reckon that putting up some blog posts and
showing other people can help with your self confidence because you could post something
up and someone might comment something nice about it and if they like it, that's going to
make you feel like you have done something good, and your going to feel proud about the
work that you have done. It helps making you want to post more on your blog because that
feedback is going to make you feel like you can do it.

Reason number 3: Other peoples blogs: you could be going through some other peoples
blogs and find something that is quite interesting, this could inspire you to do something like
this for a learning idea. It could also help with the way you write, for example, someone
would've posted something very interesting with great punctuation, great descriptive words,
and a really interesting story. This could help you with your writing for the next time you do
a piece of writing, like you could take those descriptive words and put them in, you can take
all that good punctuation and out it in your piece.

These are some of the many reasons why I think that blogging helps and improves your
learning. If you think about it, there is a lot of way blogging can affect yours and other people
learning. Thank you for reading.

We learnt a bit about New Zealand's rugby history and when there first game started and where. The reason why we did this is to learn how to find pictures that arnt copyrighted. We also learnt how to change the filters of pictures, for a color theme for our blogs.

If you want to be more precise with your search, press tools then you will see these options come up, if you want to find your search in a certain country then press any country, if you want to have your search in a certain time, press anytime.

Cats vs Dogs

Cats vs Dogs…

Today I am going to be writing about persuasive writing, which is going to be about what I like
better out of cats or dogs.My personal opinion is going to be that I like dogs better and here's
why…. First of all is going to be because they are so much fun to hang out with and do things
with, like for instance, you can't really throw a stick and expect a cat to run and grab it for you,
but you can with a dog. There is so much more you can do with a dog such as, take it places,
yeah you can do that with cats but not as often.
You can train it to do things like: rollover, sit, stay, handshake, fetch, drop, ect, I mean you can't
teach a cat to do most of those things.
They are great guard dogs as well, big or small they would be amazing if you trained them right
to attack someone with a special code word, why do you think police have dogs as a
protectors? Actually back on the police, dogs also have marvelous scenes, that's why they use
them to sniff out drugs in raids.
Not to mention how damn adorable they are!
They are very Loyal pets as well, if you give it enough attention and love they will be the best
pets!
That is my opinion on dogs so i reckon that they are better pets than dogs.
This was quite are hard debate though because i'm also in love with cats, they are both very
cute and perfects pets.

Thanks you for reading this.
